Today, Friday, October 2nd, South Ogden Junior High officially joined students and schools all across the state for the Utah State-Wide Read-a-Thon!

To celebrate the power of reading, our Spartans traded in their usual school attire for cozy, school-appropriate pajamas and spent time diving into some fantastic books! pajama bottoms, plush blankets, and good stories were everywhere in sight.

How We Celebrated at South 📖

While our class schedule ran as normal, we dedicated our entire Advisory period to celebrating literacy together:

👑 VIP Readers in the Library: Ten minutes before 1st Period ended, our nominated VIP Readers were called down to the library! They grabbed a special treat and settled into cozy spots in the library to kick off their reading time.

📣 The Official Kickoff: Right as Advisory began, our library made an all-school intercom announcement: "Welcome to the South Read-a-Thon!"

🏫 Custom Classroom Reading: Teachers and students across the building got to participate in their own unique way:

  • Silent Reading: Rolling out blankets and quietly getting lost in our own favorite books.

  • Teacher Read-Alouds: Teachers sharing the first chapter of thrilling stories with their classes.

  • Featured Author Read-Alouds: Classrooms tuning in to pre-loaded author videos featuring The Crossover by Kwame Alexander, Coraline by Neil Gaiman, and House Arrest by K.A. Holt!
