Headshot of Jeremey Nelson

Arriving at our school in October, our School Resource Officer has quickly become a familiar and friendly face in the hallways. Before entering the campus, he was working in the patrol division and several years in investigations. Those experiences made him better at what he does today.

When asked why he chose to work in a school environment, his answer was simple: he likes the idea of protecting kids. As a parent himself, helping create a safe space for students feels personal and important to him.

Many students may not realize that he still helps with investigations, often involving cases that focus on protecting children. While that side of the job is serious, he says the best part of his day is interacting with students. He loves their positivity, energy, and sense of humor.

One memorable moment was when a student left him a note thanking him for being approachable. To him, that small gesture was a reminder that building trust matters.

He defines success as preventing problems before they start and keeping tension between people to a minimum. His advice to students?  Stay focused, go to class, and do your best. And if you’re nervous about approaching him for anything, don’t be. As he says, “Just give me a high five, I’m just a guy doing a job.”
