I hope you had a relaxing summer with opportunity for family time and fun. It's another great school year and the Spartans are off to a fantastic beginning. It's always amazing to me how quickly the summer goes and how good it feels to have students back in the building. The energy and enthusiasm they bring makes SOJH such a positive place to be. Our custodians worked hard this summer and our beautiful building and grounds reflect their efforts. As a focus point for this new year, the student body and class officers chose the theme of "One Mind, One School, Spartans Unite!" I love this theme because it shows our vision at SOJH to unite students, teachers and parents to create a community based on integrity and accountability. The staff at SOJH recognizes the value parents and community bring to our efforts to educate students. We have to work together as a team in order to maximize success.
Looking forward, there are a few key dates that you should put on your calendars this term.
- September 21st is our Especially for Athletes night for athletes, parents, and coaches at 7 PM in the cafeteria. This is a mandatory meeting for any student wanting to participate in SOJH athletics this year. There will be a motivational presentation from Dustin Smith, founder of Especially for Athletes (E4A).
- September 28th is our first parent teacher conference. It will be held in the cafeteria from 1:00-6:00 PM. Parents should receive a midterm progress report prior to the conference.
- October 5th is the night we have set aside for our annual Community Night. The event will be held at TH Bell this year at 6:00 PM. In addition to a free dinner, we will have four different 20 minute breakout sessions on important topics for parents and youth including internet safety, substance abuse, mental health and bullying. This night has proven to be a great resource for parents.
- October 7th is when Reflections Contest entries are due. This year's theme is, "What is your story?" All forms and information are available in the Student Services office. Please turn in completed entries to Student Services with all forms completed. For questions, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
