South Ogden Junior High Community Council Meeting


February 8, 2016

3:00 in the Library

1. Record attendance and Excused Absences: Michele Parry, Rich Murray (excused), Glen Larsen, Jenna Norr, Christine Ottley, Jennifer Burdett, Katy Hall (excused), Melanie Milne, Scot Wahlquist, Becky Heaton, Lanny Landon, Brad Kendrick (absent)

2. Digital Safety Presentation: Lynn Raymond

a. According to the legislative bill, Lynn explained the iboss filtering system, the algorithms that find bad images, and which social media sites don't encrypt messages, how devices are managed, CIPA training.

3. Update on funding requests: Mr. Larsen

a. Mrs. Irvine has not used her funding yet, she is waiting on toner ($850) and a book sale ($400).

b. Counseling office will apply for a Chromebook next year.

4. 2015-2016 Budget: Michele Parry

a. Teacher Salaries: Teacher salaries that we thought were surplus are already allocated. We would like to have them shown as encumbered money from now on. Some buy-outs will need to come out of administrative funds. We will end up short on teacher salaries. Language learning lab was a large commitment and made this year artificially slim.

b. Another $8000 from our total funds will be needed to go towards teacher salaries. Extra monies are requested to be moved into teacher salaries.

5. 2016-2017 Plan: Plan will be written on Feb. 24th

a. Accreditation committee was impressed and encouraged: Improvement in reading, writing, math, science

6. School Update: Michele Parry

a. One new system bid was $17,968.23 (probably high)

7. April Elections: Communication to the Elementary schools and South parents

a. Recruiting: Jenna will make a teacher handout, Glen will revise the email and get the letter of intent form to Angie.
